A Flag Ceremony Skit

Key features of any good Flag Ceremony show are the skits. They too should follow some basic rules.

  1. They need to be fun, exciting, and make an impression. If the scouts are mimicking the characters; shouting out their tag lines all week; that's success.

  2. They should follow a theme from day to day so that the scouts get caught up in the story; anticipating the “next adventure”.

  1. They must have a purpose and that must be the primary purpose of the skit. Our skits usually advertise some activity that will be available to the scouts that day.

  1. Stick to the script, don't allow too much spontaneous creativity and never permit inside jokes.

  1. Everyone must speak loudly and slowly.

  1. The rest of the staff must pay attention, be interested, and support with appropriate sounds, cheers, and provide the “laugh track”.

  1. All skits must be short and fit within the 30 minuet time limit of the ceremony.

  1. Practice, Practice, Practice!!!!

Here is the story line for the Bay Watch skit below. Not so long a go on a beach not so far away a beautiful young maiden decides to work on her tan, She set out her towel and prepares to catch some ray. But little does she know. (The Staff repeats, “Little does she know.” that the sun is about to attack. The sun attacks and the staff calls for Bay Watch. Bay Watch appears and a battle ensues. Only the bottle sun screen subdues the harmful rays of the sun. Bay Watch asks the maiden, a femininization of the name of which ever staff member has the role, “Don't you that the leading cause of sun burn is the sun. (All staff members join in on “the sun!”) “Thanks Bay Watch, she replies, know I know.” And the whole staff recites, and knowing is half the battle. Bay watch then goes on to advertise its First Year Camper program for Tenderfoot, 2nd Class, and 1st Class rank advancement. They talk about the importance of wearing sun screen, or better yet a Camp Loll tee shirt available in the Trading Post. They then explain that one can learn this and other valuable First Aid related information at the Bay Watch held as such and such a time and such and such a place. Then they teach the camp the “Where's the Beach” cheer, and with a flourish, leave the stage.

The whole things takes two to three minuets – but it will be remembered for years!!!! Surely long enough to get the scouts to the class, and perhaps to the Trading Post.

Hunter-ina seeks the sun.

The Sun finds her.

The Sun attacks. Help Bay Watch!!!

Bay Watch to the rescue.

What a battle.

Beyond hope, the sunscreen saves
the day.

First Aid skills are taught and an invitation to
First Year Camper class given; also a tee shirt
commercial.

"Where's the Beach?"

A flourish, and a chi chi chi chi cha cha cha.

It is ironic that Hunter's feet are covered in duct tape because his first day on the Waterfront, he forgot to put sunscreen on his feet and burned them in "The Sun"!
